About Entrepreneur First (EF)
Entrepreneur First brings together the world’s most ambitious people to build deep tech startups from scratch in Paris, London, Berlin, Hong Kong and Singapore. We invest in exceptional individuals even before they have a team or an idea and help them find a cofounder, develop ideas, and subsequently raise funding from investors to build the world’s most valuable tech companies.
To date we have helped build 150 companies with a total valuation of over $1.5 billion. They're funded by leading VCs and angel investors from across Europe, Asia and the US, including Index Ventures, Balderton Capital, and Y Combinator. Our major exits to date include Magic Pony, led by Rob Bishop and Zehan Wang, which was acquired by Twitter for a reported US$150m only 18 months after the Founders met on the EF programme.
Most recently, we have raised US$12.4M in a round led by Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn, with participation from Greylock Partners, Founders Fund and other top US venture capital firms as well as the Deep Mind founders.
The Role
We are looking for an Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the Form team, who will deliver the EF process of helping build startups from scratch. This is a role with enormous opportunity for immediate impact. The Form Team at EF creates the platform for the world’s highest potential individuals to achieve the impact they are capable of. This means turning each selected cohort of 100 individuals into world-class startups. After the Form stage, EF invests and the Launch Team prepares them for external funding. It once seemed impossible to build companies from scratch. Over the past 5 years we've built a robust, scalable way to do this. Our method creates some of the most valuable startups produced in Europe and Asia. EF has a unique opportunity to develop the secret to building billion dollar companies from scratch.
EiR Responsibilities:
The Form Team handles the EF experience from the moment people are selected to join until they have an investable startup. The EiR will help specifically with 3 aspects of Form:
Team Building - Crack the code for building teams from scratch.
We have developed a robust team-building methodology based on our 6 years of experience in the London, Singapore, Berlin and Hong Kong cohorts, which have resulted in over 150 seed-funded companies to date. Your mission is to build as many strong teams as possible.
Ideation - Ensure the teams work on high-potential ideas
We are in a privileged position in being able to shape how our founding teams think about generating and testing their ideas, right at the inception of the company. This can radically change the trajectory of a company for the better. Your mission is to make these ideas as high potential as possible within the constraints of the founders combined skills and insights.
Let's face it, most ideas are bad- at least at first. The EIR plays a key role as advisor as the teams do customer developement, providing guidance on when to learn and pivot and when to just start fresh
Investment readiness- From teams to companies
EF invests in all the companies in a cohort that we believe have a good chance of raising capital externally. The EIRs help the companies build a rounded picture of their prospects to present to the internal panel and also contribute to the training the founders receive prior to demo day and going out to raise.
You should ideally have:

You'll also get to:
Commitment: 3-5 days per week. 6 - 12 months. Negotiable Most of our EiRs either go on to found another company or join the ef team on a permanent basis.

Student Partners 2018-19
We’re on the lookout for Student Partners to help us change the way the most talented students think about their careers. At Entrepreneur First we specialise in supporting people to build technically defensible companies from scratch and we’re looking for ambitious Student Partners to help us inspire and engage the best student technologists to build a startup with EF. This is a great opportunity if you’re interested in tech startups and either see yourself founding one or working for one in the future.
The role
You’ll be helping us grow EF’s brand at your university and encourage the best student engineers to start companies. This is a community-facing role and you’ll be the eyes and ears ‘on the ground’ - gathering first-hand insights about our customers and helping them to kick-start their startup journeys with EF. You’ll be focused on building a technical community and running tech and startup-focused meetups and events.
This role will have a lot of autonomy and we’d be excited to hear your thoughts on shaping it.
What your role will involve
An ideal EF Student Partner is:
What you will get out of it:
Apply to be a Student Partner for the 2018/19 academic year here.
The Form teams role is to turn the selected cohort of 100 individuals into fundable teams. After Form, the teams then apply to Launch to prepare them for external funding.
We were told it was impossible to build companies from scratch, and over the past five years we have built a robust and scalable way to do this. Our method works and has created some of the most valuable companies coming out of Europe and Asia. EF has now created and invested in more than 100 companies, which are now worth >$500m, having raised >$100m in venture capital. Magic Pony Technology was created through the EF process and exited to Twitter in 2016 for $150m, just 18 months after it was founded.
We are very ambitious for the future of EF and we believe that we have a unique opportunity to understand and develop the secret to building billion dollar companies from scratch. No other investor or company has access to this opportunity. This person in this role should use this as their ‘north star’ for how they should spend their time.
Roles and responsibilities:
Cultivation - Ensuring that we never lose a Magic Pony (every candidate lost is a $100m startup that never happened)
You will be responsible for ensuring that the individuals we have selected for Form join. We know that the most talented and ambitious have many different career options they could pursue - it’s your job to ensure they know that EF is the highest value use of their time.
Team building - Crack the code for the perfect founding team
Over the last 5 years we have developed a robust method for building teams. That said, there is still much to learn. You will be responsible for working directly with the individual cohort members and turning them into companies.
Ideation - Ensuring the teams use edge based ideation and work on high growth potential ideas
Much of what you read online about where ideas come from is wrong. Your mission is to ensure that the EF ideation process is properly communicated to the cohort. You need to help them understand it and implement it.
Investment - ensuring we build fundable businesses
We have to make an investment decision at the end of the Form. It’s your job to ensure that the companies we have produced are ready.
Requirements:
Experience
The person most suited for this role will:
Personal traits
To do well in this role, you will:
Training and development Your previous experience will be invaluable, but nowhere builds startups like EF. We will train and teach you the method we have developed over the last 5 years.
Reporting You will report into the Form Lead
Compensation We recognise that this is an important role for EF, and you will be compensated short term and long term according to experience with both salary and options.
Salary range is from £35-45k depending on experience.
Other benefits:
Location
This role will be based in our London office in Bermondsey (in fact it’s a converted warehouse that used to be a Biscuit Factory - there is a climbing wall and go kart track next door!)
Please note: we will not be able to supply a visa for this role.
